Week 14 Reflection

Final Reflection     If I had to teach one final lecture about the top lessons I have learned throughout this semester from this course, I would talk about vision, enjoying the journey to your goals. I loved how much we talked about having a vision in mind throughout this course. When we have a vision that we place at the forefront of our minds, we can make small but important decisions that will lead us there. If we have a vision of who we want to become or a goal we want to reach, it can often be a motivation to push through hard times along our journey there. Think of a vision beyond a physical goal (like making $500,000 a year) and make a life one that is specific to what you feel your life calling to be.  For me this was first owning a video production agency, then I thought about what I wanted to do with my calling in video production. I then made a decision that telling powerful stories was what I wanted to be known for.  In contrast, do not solely rely on your vision to keep y

Week 13 Reflection

Week 13 Reflection     This week's readings really impacted my views on gratitude as I excel in my career. I loved the list that president Monson provided for us to reflect on. As I progress, I people in our lives and the way that they bless us believe it is important to reflect on the blessing that God has given you. If we are able to reflect on the people and blessings they give us while we are progressing, we can know that when we have reached our goal in our careers, we will treat them well. I truly think it is important to treat those who support us in our lives well. I have seen people in my personal life leave their loved ones behind as they reach their career goals. It is key to thank them for their support as we make our way in college and in our careers.      I also enjoyed one of the videos that talked about how important it is to decide to be a generalist instead of a specialist. I know that as time changes so do positions in career choices. If I were to specialize in

Week 11

Week 11 Study     I enjoyed this week's study as I am interested in finances. In my opinion, my view on money impacts the way I live. I see money as a tool to help enhance things in my life but not a thing to make my life 100 percent better. I consider myself to be a minimalist and I could go on about that but one of the core things about minimalism is finding joy outside the material things in life. Yes, it is fun to have nice things, but it is more important to make sure you meet your needs. With this in mind, I have gotten rid of a lot of things that do not provide me with joy, and I have found more joy in those around me and in living a simple lifestyle where I can provide enough for myself to meet my basic needs. My point is, we must learn how to find joy OUTSIDE of money.

Week 10

Week 10     This week's study really encouraged me to take a look at myself and how I imagine myself pursuing my passions within the next couple of years. I learned about emotional intelligence and the ability to look outside myself to reach my goals. I learned about believing in myself like I believe in others and overcoming those emotional roadblocks.      As mentioned, emotional intelligence was a top lesson from this week. There are going to be times throughout our life where our emotions feel overpowering. However, we must learn to properly express them and validate them without "feeding" that emotion to grow into a habit over time. There are a few things I do to avoid this. I usually validate my feelings and say that it okay to feel that way, I then scan for more emotions that I am feeling (sometimes we express anger but are actually hurt and sad) and remember that there is more than one thing I am feeling. I then take time to calm down and recoup.      I loved a v

Week 9

Disciple Leadership      This week's readings and videos focused on being smart in choosing who you work with and how you interact with them. We should be making sure to pick wisely the people we place on our team. One of the videos stated it simply, " we try to do is we try to hire nice people...   somebody that’s got a big ego or got to have things his way to make the job satisfying wrecks it for everyone around him." The classic idea of picking people who lift others up and collaborate well stuck out to me in those words. Now, once we have a team of people we should pay close attention to how we act as coworkers. Are we bringing those with us to "higher ground" as well? In other words, does our example in actions and words help the people around us want to do and be better?      In my field of study, one is rarely working on their own. In video production, a crew works together to accomplish the goals of pre-production, production, and post-production. It wo

Week 8

Week 8 Study Summary     This week was very insightful with the studies I read. Something in particular that resonated with me was the words of Elder Holland. The video and the talk were very powerful to me because he was vulnerable with the audience and that allowed us to better understand the lessons he was conveying. The first main lesson was the lesson of endurance and the second lesson ties in well with endurance, but is enduring with joy and not giving up.     The video that we watched talked about Elder Hollands' early family life and the struggles that come along with being a young father. I'm not a mother yet, but I can definitely empathize with the idea of feeling inadequate. I oftentimes feel inadequate when it comes to school. It feels like such a big thing to take in at once, but I know as I take school step by step I will be able to accomplish everything I need and want to. This applies to becoming an entrepreneur as well, I know that there will be times where I

7 Habits

7 Habit Takeaways      This week's readings were focused on the 7 habits of highly effective people. Of the 7 habits we learned about in our readings, the habit that holds the most meaning for me is the first one, which is being proactive. To accomplish the following habits (2-7) we must first have the mindset of a self-starter. In one of the readings, it mentions that being proactive is the opposite of being reactive and that we become more responsible as we become proactive. It is how we respond to things that we cannot control that make the difference in the long run. Proactive people seek the opportunity and chose to control impulses that may have a negative effect in the long run. We so often give in to these natural impulses and end up in sticky, high-stress situations. If we simply take responsibility for our actions and begin working, we can follow the next 6 steps.      These 7 habits will help me fill my life with passion and purpose because I won't just be focusing
