Measuring Life

Measuring Life     This week's readings and videos had a lot of insight that is applicable to my life aspirations. There was a reading about prioritizing the little things in your life. It touched on the little habits that can prevent us from growth and the little habits that can assist us on our journey of growth. The was a particular quote that I have been referring to the past week to help me develop little habits that can help my growth. The quote says, "The desire to develop spiritual qualities will lead us away from other unrighteous desires." As mentioned, I have referred to this quote a lot this past week. I am trying to develop the spiritual quality of hope, and as I have focused on that I have felt a shift in my thoughts and attitude towards things. I am looking forward to developing more qualities that will assist in my growth.      Another thing I pondered from one of the readings was the difference between receiving an instant reward for your actions and wai

Honesty and Business Ethics

Honesty and Business Ethics     Through this week's reading and study, I was able to find some insight into the process of developing a company and or working with others for the greater good of the establishment we are working for. I really enjoyed listening to the talk by Elder Lynn G. Robbins. It was interesting because as he began to further explain the "grade process" of making a living, I tied the primary and secondary motivations to my stars and steppingstones (the assignment from last week). What I got out of his talk was the importance of constantly checking your priorities to ensure that you are keeping your motivations in check with your calling.      Another point I enjoyed from this week's study was the presentation Frank Levinson gave. One particular topic he touched on was involving your family in some of your work. He gave an example of when he had a lot to do for work on Christmas Eve, so he got his family together and took them to the office and eve

Create a Life of Meaning

Create a Life of Meaning          This week we had the opportunity to listen to Randy Pausch. After listening, I understood why and how he achieved so many of his childhood dreams. One thing he said really struck me, after visiting Disneyland as a kid he said, "Instead of saying, I want to experience this, I said, I want to make stuff like this." He had the idea since he was a kid to become a creator. He was able to accomplish his dreams because he was focusing on creating.  I do believe that dreaming is important to recognize our long term goals. However, it is important not to get too caught up in a dream and forget that we must put forth an effort and fail many times before we even become close to achieving that dream/goal.      Since I was a kid I have always loved film. I would make cardboard cameras out of old boxes in our garage and pretend to film movies around the house. In the sixth grade, I made a timeline and said that I would be a film director. I am currently p

W01 Reflection

Entrepreneurial Journal      I am currently enrolled in a college course that focuses on entrepreneurship. I was a bit shocked when I read that the focus of the class was NOT to build a business plan, but rather a life plan that could push you to one day develop a business plan. The idea of starting off with myself and my life goals seems more attainable at the moment because the first steps start with me.      In one of this week's readings, I came across this quote by  Marcus Aurelius, "It’s not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live." This tied into a concept earlier on in the reading that mentioned how life develops more meaning when you live it with intent. I pondered on these two ideas and realized that I often get caught up in focusing on the finish line, I forget to enjoy the run. Questions then flooded my mind, "How do I live a life with intent? What does it look like to actually be living? What attributes to a life lived w
