Create a Life of Meaning
Create a Life of Meaning
This week we had the opportunity to listen to Randy Pausch. After listening, I understood why and how he achieved so many of his childhood dreams. One thing he said really struck me, after visiting Disneyland as a kid he said, "Instead of saying, I want to experience this, I said, I want to make stuff like this." He had the idea since he was a kid to become a creator. He was able to accomplish his dreams because he was focusing on creating. I do believe that dreaming is important to recognize our long term goals. However, it is important not to get too caught up in a dream and forget that we must put forth an effort and fail many times before we even become close to achieving that dream/goal.
Since I was a kid I have always loved film. I would make cardboard cameras out of old boxes in our garage and pretend to film movies around the house. In the sixth grade, I made a timeline and said that I would be a film director. I am currently pursuing that dream and attending college to get there. I do believe that I can get there and need to continue seeking opportunities to network and grow in this industry.
One principle I enjoyed from this week's reading was the concept of personal revelation. Personal revelation isn't just something you receive when you are moving to a new state or looking for a new job, it is available 24/7 and should be received on a daily basis. How much change would we see in our lives if we (at the beginning of each day) conversed with God and wrote down 1 thing we felt inspired to do and confirmed it by the spirit of the Holy Ghost? I have seen in my own life how personal revelation not only benefits yourself but those around you.
