Measuring Life
Measuring Life
This week's readings and videos had a lot of insight that is applicable to my life aspirations. There was a reading about prioritizing the little things in your life. It touched on the little habits that can prevent us from growth and the little habits that can assist us on our journey of growth. The was a particular quote that I have been referring to the past week to help me develop little habits that can help my growth. The quote says, "The desire to develop spiritual qualities will lead us away from other unrighteous desires." As mentioned, I have referred to this quote a lot this past week. I am trying to develop the spiritual quality of hope, and as I have focused on that I have felt a shift in my thoughts and attitude towards things. I am looking forward to developing more qualities that will assist in my growth.
Another thing I pondered from one of the readings was the difference between receiving an instant reward for your actions and waiting to see that reward. We can get caught up in prioritizing the things that give us an instant feeling of reward but most of the lasting things in life take time to see the reward. In a reading by Clayton M. Christensen, he talks about how many people focus on their work and often put their family on the backburner due to this. This opened my eyes a bit because I often put things like my health (physical and mental) on the back burner because I feel that things like school assignments take priority because I can see the results immediately. It takes much more time to work on your mental and physical health than to finish an essay for a class but we often place assignments over the essential life priorities.
